Dr Jeremy Lam and our team of Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Oral Health Therapists can assist you with the diagnosis and management of all aspects of dental health care from simple restorations to advanced full mouth reconstruction, from childhood through to aged care.
From a routine check-up and clean, to wisdom teeth removal, general dentistry involves a vast variety of dental treatments which all aim to maintain your oral health and function. There are two major branches of dentistry – preventative and reconstructive.
Our Dentists and Dental hygienists’ love nothing more than preventing you and your family from needing restorative dentistry.
Regular dental exams allow us to give you tailored, specific oral health advice. This, combined with ‘active maintenance’ visits help our patients avoid the need for complex dental work later.
This can involve clean and scales, polishing and maintaining existing dental work to prolong life. We also value consistent record taking, such as photos of developing concerns, so they can be monitored to ensure we can act at the appropriate time. This approach ensures our patients save on the cost of complex dental treatments.
However, all is not lost if the need for restorative work is discovered. As industry leaders in general dentistry, we are here to help! Our team are experts at rebuilding damaged teeth and can offer you a range of choices in different materials and price points to suit your needs.
Cavities or broken and chipped teeth are all too common and, despite advances in toothpastes and fluoride in our drinking water, tooth decay is still one of the most prevalent diseases in Australia. For most small to medium sized cavities or chips, our team is likely to recommend a filling as one treatment option.
There are 2 mainstream types of filling
A Composite filling commonly known as a “white filling”, is a resin-based material that can be done chair side immediately after the decay is removed. When done well, a white (composite) filling can look very natural and ideal for small to medium cavities.
A Porcelain filling, also known as an “inlay or onlay”, is the strongest of all the filling materials and is also able to mimic natural teeth. Porcelain fillings are ideal for large cavities where more than 50% of the tooth is missing, and are custom made outside of the mouth, so may require a longer appointment.
Grange Family Dental are proud of our in-house lab equipment and expertise which allows us to manufacture these on-site, meaning we have complete control of the design, colour match and fit. It also ensures no waiting time with temporary materials, which can be a hassle.
An Amalgam filling often known as a “silver filling” may also be done chair side but is now uncommon due to the advanced technologies of other materials.
