As a family-focused dental clinic, we put your child’s dental health first. We understand that for a lifetime of good oral-health, the first few years where teeth are present in the mouth are crucial and finding a good children dentist is important.
We love to treat children of all ages but are especially concerned with making your child’s first dental visit and early years a fun, happy, educational experience to ensure no dental anxieties can develop.
While it’s true, all dentists can treat children, we believe kids’ dentistry should be performed by practitioners with an interest in preventative dentistry, who demonstrate the patience, kindness, and skill to connect with these special patients in a way that makes them feel safe and calm.
Our mix of experienced Dentists and Oral Health Therapists (Dental practitioners whose University training was focused exclusively on treating children) ensure your child’s appointment length is not rushed, with enough time to gain trust, build confidence and ensure safe treatment.
Education and knowledge are the key to a lifetime of health, so we focus on these areas ensuring you and your child are empowered with great skills and knowledge.
You should take your child to the dentist as soon as your child’s first baby tooth starts to appear, generally between 6 to 10 months. Don’t fret if your child’s teeth haven’t started coming through within that time range though as every child is different. If they haven’t started growing by 12 months, you should book an appointment to consult with our child-friendly dentists.
Qld Government data shows 40% of 4-year old’s have a hidden cavity, waiting to cause a toothache in a tooth that won’t wiggle out until age 9-12. Because of this it’s vital that children are screened from an earlier age and are familiar and confident with routine dental visits.
Just like you, visiting the dentist is an important component of your child’s oral health. Your child already has adult teeth they will need for life by age 6, so it’s important they are checked regularly, and your child is confident and happy in the chair in case any interventions are required.
Visiting a dentist, especially while your child’s teeth are developing is important as this gives us the best chance for early detection of potential dental conditions. We can also give you tips and advice on oral hygiene practices and help your child to become familiar with the sights, sounds, and smells of our dental practice.
If we discover disease in your child’s baby teeth, we can make changes to their diet and routine before adult teeth are compromised, saving a life-time of the cost and maintenance of replacing fillings on adult teeth every 7-10 years.
Children should visit the dentist every 6 months for a regular check-up or sooner if they are complaining of any concerns you may need investigating or reassurance with.
