Intra-Oral Camera and Digital X-Rays

One of the most useful tools in diagnosing difficult to spot problems is the intra-oral (or in-mouth) camera. At Grange Family Dental, each room is equipped with a high resolution in-mouth digital camera that can capture objects as small as 0.06mm. Whenever your Dentist is unsure about something, they can use the camera to “zoom” into the area and get a closer look.

3D full-jaw X-Rays

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and a good X-Ray image allows our dentists to diagnose problems which they cannot see with the naked eye, and can shed light on a problem or symptoms that may not be clear when viewed from the surface.

At our practice in Grange, North Brisbane we have state of the art x-ray equipment so we can fulfil all your needs on-site without referral to any other locations, saving you time, and giving us complete control over the images and their cost to you.

Each room is equipped to take bite-wing x-rays, and we also have the latest technology OPG machine, which takes panoramic skull images and comprehensive 3d scans for planning complex dental treatment such as orthodontics, implants, and full dental makeovers.

Cerec one day crown

When choosing what equipment and technology to invest in, we try to focus on equipment that will give our patients the maximum benefit in terms of treatment outcome and cost saving. Our state-of-the-art Cerec MCXL machine is the core piece of equipment at the heart of what we set out to achieve by starting our own in-house lab.

CEREC – (Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics) machines produce Australian made, TGA approved Ceramic crowns, bridges, and veneers in-house.

With no metal involved, we can eliminate unsightly black metal margins showing at the gum line of your crown, so over the years you’ll maintain that great cosmetic appearance you had from day one.

With complete design control we can colour match to perfection, and ensure you are 100% happy before the final product is inserted permanently in your mouth.

Crowns are one of the most common and important investments our patients can make to keep their natural teeth for life, so it was important to us that we could provide them with the best materials and designs on the market.

How does the Cerec Machine work?
1) The CEREC camera scanner will take a 3D digital scan of the prepared tooth and the top and bottom jaw, offering an accurate impression – no mouthful of plasticky impression materials makes gagging a thing of the past, improving patient comfort.

2) The CEREC software will then analyse the impressions and propose a restoration model to be milled. Your dentist will make adjustments to ensure a natural, easy to clean, aesthetically perfect tooth is produced, and select the perfect colour to match your existing teeth.

3) The software then submits the design to the milling machine. The milling machine grinds and cuts out the crown which has been specially designed for you.

4) Once the crown has been milled, it is sent to the furnace to ensure strength and durability. Your tooth is now ready to be inserted!
This all happens in 30 minutes while you have been comfortably waiting in our specially designed recovery room. Equipped with a recliner, tv with Netflix and apple tv, you will be catered to by our lovely attentive staff. We offer tea and coffee and free wi-fi, in case you’d like to catch up on work emails or social media while you wait.

What are the benefits of same day cerec crowns vs. Regular crowns?
Same day crowns eliminate the need to visit the dentist a second time, requiring less travel time and less time in the chair. Another benefit of visiting once is less anaesthetic and less discomfort.

Continuity of care – all work is completed by us, Grange Family Dental, in Australia (unlike some major dental chains which send their lab work overseas for cost cutting). We ensure TGA approval and only place the finest, strongest materials in your mouth. You need not wonder what unknown materials have been used. We keep full digital records of all work completed, so your medical records are preserved for future reference if required.

3D printing in dentistry is much more than just a new technology: it has the potential to change dentistry forever.

By taking digital scans of your mouth, and using state-of-the-art design software, we will be able to prescribe, design and print custom made TGA approved dental appliances for you with same-day or next-day turn around.

More applications for 3d printing are being dreamed up every day, making for an exciting future which we’re proud to be at the forefront of.

How does 3d Scanning and printing work?
3d scanning eliminates the need for dental impressions, so for young children or adults who gag this technology is a game-changer.

Using advanced materials, and leveraging the world’s most advanced software, we can now offer unbelievable accuracy and surface quality when we 3d print your dental models, grinding guards, splints, orthodontic retainers and appliances, and in the future crowns and bridges.

Unparalleled precision also lets us create surgical guides for perfect implant placement every time.

What are the advantages?
Any parent whose child has ever lost an expensive orthodontic retainer will know the hassle and expense of having to make multiple dental appointments to replace it. It can take up to two weeks to find short-notice appointments that work, take new moulds, send them to the lab, and then fit your replacement appliance.

With a 3d printer we can have your child’s 3d scan on file, so start printing their models and retainers the moment we receive your call. You could potentially pick up a replacement orthodontic appliance on your way home that evening.

EMS airflow

The gentlest, fastest method of teeth cleaning in Dentistry.

Visiting your dentist for a regular check-up and clean is the most important step you can take to prevent diseases including tooth decay and gingivitis or gum disease.

However, we know that the cleaning process can be sensitive or uncomfortable, leading many people to delay or avoid it unnecessarily.

The EMS airflow was designed to avoid the most complained about aspects of cleans, whilst speedily delivering the most thorough clean and stain removal ever achieved in dentistry.

How does it work?
By utilising a technique called ‘Guided Biofilm Therapy’ your Dentist or Dental Hygienist will use a gentle warm water spray, reinforced with tiny polishing beads to first remove any soft plaque, food, or stains from all surfaces of the teeth and gums.

This will allow them perfect vision to see any hard mineral calculus deposits left on the teeth or under the gums. They can then gently target only these deposits with an ultrasonic handpiece that keeps water warm, to avoid cold water

How else can you make my clean more comfortable?
Our skilled clinicians have plenty of tricks up their sleeves to maximise your comfort, while ensuring a deep clean that will eliminate disease causing build-up and remove unsightly stains. Ask them if you feel you need extra topical anaesthetic or sensitivity reducing gels applied prior to your clean.
EMS treatment for Gum Disease
Gum disease is one of the most prevalent causes of tooth loss in Australia, yet is still misunderstood by patients, and unfortunately under-diagnosed and under-treated by dentists.
All patients at Grange Family Dental undergo a full gum disease screening at each check-up, and for at-risk patients we keep full mouth x-rays at recommended intervals, and periodontal screening measurements as required.

The EMS airflow has proven to be a game-changer in the management of patients suffering from this chronic auto-immune disease, who had previously had a long history of bleeding gums and painful cleans.

Gum-disease affected teeth can be extra sensitive to clean, but with appropriate use of the EMS system, combined with Local Anaesthetic or topical gels and toothpastes we can now treat these patients more gently, in a shorter appointment.

Studies also show better control or resolution of Gum Disease symptoms when the EMS is operated by a skilled practitioner with expert knowledge of gum disease management. All of our practitioners at Grange Family Dental make gum disease identification and treatment a priority, and we love our EMS as the most powerful tool in our armament.
